IADT’s Television Production program explores both the creative and technical sides of television production. Using industry-standard procedures and equipment, students can develop hands-on abilities used in both television studios and television production control rooms.
In the first term of the program, students are introduced to the Business of Television, which covers regulatory agencies, industry associations, the structure of television companies, and broadcast outlets. The curriculum also explores the television studio, studio and electronic news gathering (ENG) cameras, and the complexities that make up a modern television production control room. Students are introduced to editing theory and begin hands-on practice.
During the next three terms, students study the complexities of television production control room equipment through lecture and extensive hands-on labs.
In the fifth term, students concentrate on program development and planning, as well as creating all the elements used to produce short television programs in a live-to-tape environment using industry-standard deadlines.
The final term deals with creating advanced television programming and tests a student's ability and knowledge of the creative and technical aspects of television production. Graduates should be familiar with all aspects of the field and can pursue entry-level positions at television stations or networks, cable specialty television channels, or independent television production facilities.
